For the past few years, Paris Hilton has been all over the media with her “wanna be a star and I don’t care what it takes” attitude. First it was her reality show with her friend, Nicole Richie, “The Simple Life” that took Paris from daddy’s girl to a household name. The fame brought to her by the TV show was only the beginning and Paris got involved in many business endeavors and started to build the basis of what is known today as the Paris fashion and business empire.
Paris as a Businesswoman
On top of being a successful businesswoman, Paris worked as a model, actress, and as a musician in the past. Her transition to an entrepreneur started with “The Simple Life,” and took Paris to have her own purse lines and perfumes, hair extensions and footwear. As a result, Paris earned approximately $2 million in 2003–2004, $6.5 million in 2004–2005,and $7 million in 2005–2006. Looking at these numbers, it becomes apparent that Paris does much more than just tan next to a pool all day.
If we look at Paris’ life so far, it is obvious that on top of her fame the rich blondy is actually a very good businesswoman who takes chances and who knows very well how to market her main product: herself. Over time Paris became a commodity, a brand name. No one has to be reminded of her adult home video, a scandal that is just one example of Paris’ smart marketing strategies, which in the end sold thousands of her products.
Paris Gets Into Politics
Only a small group of celebrities decide to get involved in the presidnential campaign, and Paris belongs to them. Instead of being offended by Sen. McCain’s sarcastic video against Sen. Obama, which included Paris Hilton and Britney Spears as “pop stars without any political interest or knowledge,” Paris responded with his own video.
Although it is very likely that Paris did not actually come up with the witty combination of McCain’s and Obama’s offshore drilling, undoubtedly it was her smart decision to take advantage of Sen. McCain’s mockery and respond to the campaign ad. Adding some “hot Paris” to the otherwise serious and educational solution, Paris did a good job not only replying to McCain’s offensive suggestion comparing Paris Hilton and Britney Spears to the popularity and style of Sen. Obama, but she also made a strong attempt to respond to McCain using his own field, politics.
It is easy to say that Paris Hilton is nothing more than a rich and pretty girl, but looking at her marketing strategies and her high income year after year, the truth cannot be hidden. Paris is actually much more than what she appears to be. She is a good businesswoman, who admires fashion and does anything to be regarded as a star, but would also take chances by releasing a political satire to respond to anyone who does not take her seriously, even if that is Sen. McCain.
