Those who thought that the first DVD, the Stargate: Ark of Truth could have been better will be satisfied with Stargate: Continuum.

The original Stargate movie was a Canadian-American military science fiction released in 1994 with leading actor Kurt Russell as Colonel Jack O’Neill. Stargate SG-1 is a TV adaptation and continuation of the original movie which was aired in 1997. Due to the huge success of the TV series, 10 years later when the show came to an end, viewers still demanded more. As a result, writer and executive producer Brad Wright not only continued the story with a new story line titled Stargate Atlantis, but also created two new DVD movies titled Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum.

SG-1 began in 1997 as a sci-fi TV series starring Richard Dean Anderson, formerly known for his role as MacGyver. His humor and personality quickly made Jack the most popular hero of the SG fleet and made thousands of viewers tune in to watch the new episodes every week for 10 years. As a result of the successful 10 seasons, Stargate SG-1 became the longest-running North American science fiction series on television, surpassing the nine seasons and 202 episodes of The X-Files.

By the time SG-1 was approaching its 10 year anniversary and its last episode in 2007 the producers decided to continue the story of Stargate with a new storyline and this is how Stargate Atlantis was born. By the time SG-1 ended, Stargate Atlantis picked up and by having interconnected characters and stories, Stargate Atlantis kept most of the loyal viewers of SG-1.

Therefore, those who have been watching Stargate SG-1 for the past 10 years and later tuned on to the new series, Stargate Atlantis, probably could not wait to see what the DVD movie will bring. Writer and executive producer Brad Wright did not disappoint SG fans with this new release. Stargate: Continuum brings back all the SG-1 favorite characters and adds the usual humor to a clever storyline.

All major characters; namely General Jack O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson), Colonel Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping), Teal’c (Christopher Judge) and Dr. Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) from the original SG-1 series appear in this movie and begin to work on fixing the altered timeline and defeat the last Goa’uld System Lord for once and forever. On top of the usual Jack-humor and short and witty conversations with Teal’c, we get a possible answer to our question; what if things were different to start with and the artifact called stargate was never discovered at the first place? What would the individual characters be doing with their lives now? Stargate: Continuum answers these questions.

Today it seems like that even though Stargate SG-1 was on the air for 10 years, the viewers still did not have enough of Jack, Samantha, Daniel and Teal’c, and they demand to see more. Those who thought that the first DVD, the Stargate: Ark of Truth could have been better will be satisfied with this new release, and those who want to see more of the SG story should stay tuned because more is coming.
